LTPP DataPave Online
Is DataPave.com the same as the regular DataPave from the CD?
How do I get a quick overview of what is in DataPave.com?
Is there an export size limitation in DataPave online?
Is there any limitations when using SQL exports in DataPave online?
What is the best way to retrieve all the data from a particular table or tables?
I am a master's student. I was looking at some FWD data for Ontario, and I was just wondering where can I find the location of a specific site based on the SHRP_ID. Specifically, I just wanted to know where 1620, 1622, 1680, 1806, 2811, and 2812 were located (ie. near which city?) (and the state code for each was (87)?
What parameters were used by the LTPP program to classify the different LTPP experiments into climatic regions?
What data Level type does DataPave.com have?
How to use LTPP Lab Codes to Identify Who Performed Lab Tests
What data is included in DataPave.com?
What other data is NOT included in DataPave.com?
How frequent is data updated in DataPave.com?
Where can I get help in DataPave.com?
What type of help can I expect from DataPave.com?
When I extract data from the web site how long do I have to download the data?
I have a dialup connection to the Internet. How long will it take to download my selected data?
What is the file size limit for download in DataPave.com?

Is DataPave.com the same as the regular DataPave from the CD?
No. A lot of effort went into developing the online DataPave site, in some aspects it mirrors the current DataPave 3.0 version, but in many cases it does not. What was not changed is the ability to select data and extract data as you would in DataPave 3.0. One added feature that is not included in DataPave 3.0 that the web site has is the ability to chart real-time data (based on your selection), compared with DataPave 3.0 which had charts that were hard coded into the application.

How do I get a quick overview of what is in DataPave.com?
If you only wish to get a quick overview of the site, go to the navigation bar option "Tools" and go to "Data Dictionary." This section will give insight on the data content of the web site.

Is there an export size limitation in DataPave online?
The export size is limited to 65,000 records. This constraint is enabled to allow data exports in Microsoft Excel file format. Microsoft Excel files have a 65,000 record limit.

Is there any limitations when using SQL exports in DataPave online?
The SQL Server Query Governor is set to limit running SQL commands that exceed 100 seconds of execution time. This constraint is set to limit server resource utilization for data export. With this constraint, very large SQL queries (e.g., select * from MON_PROFILE_DATA) that take more than two minutes to complete will not execute.

This constraint does not restrict exporting MON_PROFILE_DATA if proper SQL queries are used. Please note that executing "select * from MON_PROFILE_DATA" will display "The SQL Query you entered will take too long to process. Please change your query to subset the data request." message.

What is the best way to retrieve all the data from a particular table or tables?
Because of the potential to download a large amount of data from DataPave.com it is recommended that if you wish to download all of the data from any table that you use the SQL Export feature listed under the Tools option. An example statement might be "SELECT * FROM MON_FRICTION". This will download all the data from the MON_FRICTION table.

If you go to Visualize|Criteria and select North Atlantic region and ON (87), next screen select all experiments, since you do not know which ones they are select all experiments. The next screen click next under the set criteria screen, then the next screen will be the end result with all the experiments meeting your criteria, scroll down the list and you will see 87-1620-1, 87-1622-, 87-1680-1, 87-1806-1, 87-2811-1. On the upper right hand side of the table you will see a block called "Location" there you will find the Lat. and Long. coordinates, route number etc.

What parameters were used by the LTPP program to classify the different LTPP experiments into climatic regions?
In the beginning of the LTPP program the experimental matrix used the following conditions to classify experiments into the four LTPP climatic regions:

If an experiment had an average annual rainfall over 20 inches (508 mm) it was determined to be in (Wet). If an experiment had an average freezing index over 150 degree Fahrenheit days (83.3 degree Celsius days)it was determined as (Freezing) and an experiment with 20 inches or less rainfall per year (Dry).

What data Level type does DataPave.com have?
The LTPP program has different levels of data. This website has the same data the LTPP program releases through it's Standard Data Release (SDR). As an LTPP policy the LTPP program SDR contains all levels of data. The website does as well. The graphics and information displayed on some of the screens are based on all levels of data(Level A-E).

How to use LTPP Lab Codes to Identify Who Performed Lab Tests
The LAB_CODE field is a four digit character field to help users identify where the laboratory is located and who performed the test. Using the STATE_CODE definition, the first two characters represent the State in which the laboratory is located. The third character indicates what laboratory performed the test (see shaded box below). And the fourth character represents the sample’s test number and is sequentially numbered from 1-9, then A-Z.
A novice database user can very easily use the Table Navigator software to identify who performed the laboratory test. This software is included in the Standard Data Release (SDR) and does not require the user to have any experience in combining tables or using Standard Query Language (SQL) to get the laboratory information. The user simply opens any TST table (that contains laboratory test results) and clicks the LAB_CODE field to find out who performed the test.
For example, LAB_CODE 4821 shows that the lab is located in Texas (48), the test was performed by the State (2), and this is the first test performed on the sample (1).
While all of the characters are general descriptor information, the third character tells the user who performed the laboratory test. FHWA lab contractors are required to follow certain data QC and Quality Assurance (QA) procedures set by the LTPP program office. However, the internal QC/QA practices for the State highway agencies and third-party contractors may be different from what LTPP requires. Therefore, the user should take this into consideration when analyzing the data.

Possible Selections for Third Character in LAB_CODE Field
1 – Lab contracted by FHWA
2 – Lab run by State, Federal, or Canadian Province
3 – Third-party lab contracted by State or Canadian Province
4 – International LTPP participant lab (there are none of these)
5 – Other

What data is included in DataPave.com?
The current site includes the data that was released with the LTPP Database Release 16 (July 2003).

What other data is NOT included in DataPave.com?
DataPave.com does NOT have all the raw Traffic and Profile data from the IMS. It does not have data from the Ancillary Information Management System (AIMS). However this data can be obtained through the LTPP Customer Service Center at:

How frequent is data updated in DataPave.com?
LTPP DataPave Online has a full standard LTPP data release. The frequency will be in accordance to the LTPP data release policy.

Where can I get help in DataPave.com?
The web sites navigation bar (main menu) provides a help option.

What type of help can I expect from DataPave.com?
The web sites help options includes an LTPP Datapave Online Users Guide. This help file covers the majority of the issues that are related to the use of the web site and features of the web site that are different from the previous versions of DataPave. The web site help does NOT include help on data collection and processing. If you have any concerns related to data collection and processing these should be to the LTPP customer support services at:

When I extract data from the web site how long do I have to download the data?
The results of your selection criteria remain online for download for upto 4 hours after you create the selection.

I have a dialup connection to the Internet. How long will it take to download my selected data?
Dialup connection speeds vary enormously and depend on a number of factors. A 5 MB file may take upto 14 minutes using a 56k modem. This number does not take under consideration delay times between modems and should only be used as a guide. Obviously if you have a digital connection such as Cable modem, DSL, T1, or T3, line download times will be faster. The website has added the option of compressing the final file using ZIP technology, which at times can help reduce the amount of time to download. The final file size is also reported just before download to provide the user with the option to cancel or proceed with the download.

What is the file size limit for download in DataPave.com?
Currently DataPave.com will allow up to 10 MB files size. This is currently a self-imposed limitation, which will be re-evaluated after time.
